Training cum Exposure visit on Post-harvest Management and value addition of Fruit Crops was organized for the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) of Andhra Pradesh on September 17, 2021. More than 30 members of FPO of Srikakulam and Vizianagram districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the training program. Indian Grameen Services (IGS) and State Horticulture Deptt and KVK facilitated the farmers to attend the training program. Dr. G. C. Acharya, Head I/c, welcomed the participants and highlighted the activities of CHES, Bhubaneswar including post-harvest facilities for the benefits of farming community. He also highlighted the scope of post-harvest management in fruit crops for enhancing market value of produce. Sh. Bhaskar Chandra Sahoo, Sr. Manager, IGS and Dr. V. Harikumar, Scientist, KVK, Srikakulam emphasized the need of exposures visits to research institute for adoption of feasible technologies for post-harvest management. They also highlighted the significance of effective market channel for getting better price of produce. Dr. Kundan Kishore highlighted the significance of feasible interventions such as grading, washing, packaging, etc. in post-harvest management of fruit crops. Dr. P. Srinivas emphasized the importance of diseases management in enhancing shelf life and market value of fruits. Dr. Manas Sahoo described the extension activities and laboratory facilities of CHES, Bhubaneswar. The participants visited the demonstration plots of fruit crops such as, mango, dragon fruit, pineapple, apple ber, etc. and got exposure to scientific production technology for getting quality yield. Post-harvest activities such as washing, grading, hot water treatment, low temperature storage, fruit ripening with ethylene gas and packaging were described to participants by Dr. Kundan Kishore.
