ICAR-IIHR extended its Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) project to Tumakuru Dist. Recently it launched a mega programme in Devalakere village of Pavagada taluk, Tumakuru Dist., Karnataka on 26th Feb, 2020. About 360 tribal farmers and others from 18 villages who were selected based on the preliminary survey, to uplift their livelihood security through ICAR-IIHR technologies.
This programme was inaugurated by Dr MR Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru by distributing Nine varieties of different fruit crops viz., mango, guava, jamun, custard apple and 12 varieties of different vegetables viz., chilli, tomato, bhendi, brinjal, amaranthus, drumstick, french bean, dolichos, pumpkin and curry leaf for 120 acres. In his inaugural address, Dr MR Dinesh stressed the importance of horticulture crops to enhance the income of farming community, important fruit varieties for rainfed situations. He also appreciated efforts of Pavagada farmers to go for horticulture crops within the availability of limited resources. He also advised the beneficiaries to adopt ICAR-IIHR technologies to secure economic profitability.
Mr. S Shivaprasad, member of ICAR-IIHR- RAC, lauded the efforts of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research for its innovative technologies and farmer friendly programmes. He thanked the Director and Staff for implementing the TSP programme in Pavagada Tq.
Dr. B Narayanaswamy, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer TSP highlighted the importance of TSP project and its extension to Tumakuru Dist. He explained the farmers... how to adopt package of practices of important crops for higher returns.
This programme was also attended by Dr. V. Nagabushana Reddy, President Rastriya Kisan-Sangha(R.) Karnataka, Mr. Narashima Reddy, President Taluk Farmers Association, Pavagada, Mr. Sogadu Venkatesh, Taluk Panchayath member, Smt. Shanthamma, President Grama Panchayath, Community leaders of different villages, Progressive farmers of the locality viz., Mr. Girish, Mr. Palaiah, Mr. Veerabhadrappa, Mr. Shivakumar, Mr. Obaleshappa, State Dept. Officials and Media people were present in the programme and shared their experiences.
