Bengaluru, 28th October 2024: The Deeksharambh 2024 - Students Induction Programme at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Bengaluru, concluded with a formal valedictory session, marking the successful completion of a week-long orientation designed to welcome and orient new 33 M.Sc. students of the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru Hub. The event was held in the Dr. G S Randhawa Auditorium and saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students alike
The program commenced with an invocation song by Ms.P. Maruvarasi, III Ph.D(FSC) student, setting a warm and welcoming tone. Dr. R. Venugopalan, Academic Coordinator at IARI Bengaluru Hub, introduced the session, with an insightful overview of the genesis of the Post Graduate education program at ICAR-IIHR, showcasing its achievements over the years and emphasizing the institute's commitment to excellence in horticultural education and research.
A comprehensive summary of the week-long induction program was presented by Dr. Sridhar Gutam, Course Leader of Deeksharambh 2024. Dr. Gutam highlighted the diverse sessions on academic resources, professional growth, and personal development, aimed at equipping students with the foundational knowledge necessary for their academic journey.
Heads of Departments, and Discipline Coordinators addressed the students, extending their welcome and offering valuable insights on navigating both academic and research pursuits within ICAR-IIHR and the wider agricultural research landscape.
Prof. Dr. T. K. Behera, Director, ICAR-IIHR, formally welcomed the new M.Sc. students and encouraged them to take full advantage of the resources and mentorship available at the institute. Dr. Behera’s address was followed by a keynote speech from the Chief Guest, Dr. T. Janakiram, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. YSR Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh, who shared his insights on the future of horticultural research and inspired students to pursue excellence and innovation.
In his presidential address, Prof. Dr. T. K. Behera, Director, ICAR-IIHR, extended a warm welcome to the new students, encouraging them to embrace a life of disciplined learning on campus. The Chief Guest, Dr. T. Janakiram, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. YSR Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh, shared his appreciation for ICAR-IIHR’s outstanding achievements, recognizing the institute as the leading ICAR institution. Dr. Janakiram commended the quality of the campus and its faculty, emphasizing how their dedicated work has propelled ICAR-IIHR to the forefront of agricultural research. He encouraged ICAR-IIHR to further explore emerging areas such as IoT and digital technologies, which have transformative potential for horticulture. He also encouraged Prof. Dr. Behera to take strides toward establishing a mega university at IIHR, positioning it as a global leader in horticultural education and research.
