Sri. G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Government of India; Member, Spices Board and Chairman, Chilli Task Force Committee visited ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru on 2nd November, 2020 and interacted with the Director, I/c PME Cell, HoD’s, Nodal Officers regarding various technologies developed at ICAR-IIHR. The Director, ICAR-IIHR made a brief presentation about the institute and its achievements over the last 50 years. Dr. K. Madhavi Reddy, Principal Scientist and I/c Head, Division of Vegetable Crops presented the research work on chilli being carried out at the institute.
The Chairman interacted with the scientists and emphasized on dissemination of technologies to the farmers’. He advised the Director and the scientists to conduct frequent meetings to create awareness regarding New Agriculture Policy. He emphasized on manufacturing of indigenous equipments required for quality analysis. After the meeting, he visited chilli research plots and appreciated the chilli hybrids resistant to LCV. He further advised the concerned scientists to demonstrate these hybrids in major chilli growing areas. He also visited breeder Seed Unit, Post Harvest Technology & Agricultural Engineering and Food Safety Referral Laboratory and informed the Director to send a brief write up of the major achievements of the Institute.
