The Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES), ICAR-IIHR, Bhubaneswar, celebrated World Soil Day on 5th December 2024 at Bhapur, Banamalipur, Khorda. The program, organized with the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage,” emphasizing the importance of accurate soil data and sustainable soil management for food security. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 50 stakeholders, including farmers, scientists, and FPO representatives. Mr. Manoj Kumar Pattanaik, T.O. highlighted the significance of the program and the pressing issue of soil degradation caused by unsustainable practices. Dr. Satyapriya Singh, Scientist, provided an insightful overview of the historical background of World Soil Day and its importance. Mr. Kalandi Behera, CEO, SISHU ANANTH, FPC, Balipatna, highlighted the contributions of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in empowering the farming community and enhancing soil health management. Mr. Janmanjeya Nanda, CEO, DKP, FPC, Balianta, also participated in the discussions, adding valuable perspectives. The interactive session witnessed active participation from farmers, who raised pertinent questions and shared their experiences, making the program highly impactful. The program was coordinated by Dr. Satyapriya Singh, Mr. Manoj Kumar Pattanaik, and Mr. A. Ail Kumar.
