24th January 2024 a delegation led by Honorable Minister for Agriculture, Smt. Shilpi Neha Tirkey and Secretary for Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand visited IIHR to discuss possible areas of collaboration for upliftment of farming community of Jharkhand state.
At the outset Dr Tusar Kanti Behera, Director IIHR welcomed the delegation and honorable minister and highlighted the achievements of IIHR in the field of Horticultural research, extension and education. Dr E Sreenivasa Rao, Nodal officer, Project Monitoring and evaluation Cell, presented the timelines of development of IIHR and its contribution to the farming community and national economy in the past six decades. Dr Atheequlla, Scientist, Social Sciences Division presented the activities of IIHR scientists taken up in the state of Jharkhand.
Honorable Minister Smt. Shilpi Neha Tirkey saluted the visionaries who established such an important institute, applauded the contribution of IIHR to national economy and the efforts made by IIHR scientists in improving the economic status and livelihood of farmers of the country as well as Jharkhand state farmers. Minister expressed the willingness to collaborate with IIHR with regard to adoption of High-tech horticultural practices, training of farmers and seed and planting materials production and distribution in Commodity based business model. The delegates including Secretaries also discussed with the Heads of various divisions of IIHR for mutual collaboration in the field of horticulture and visited various facilities like Centre of Excellence in High Tech horticulture, Nursery unit, Food Safety Referral lab including Honey testing facility, Mushroom unit and BEST-HORT facility.
