Towards conversion of waste to wealth a shredder unit was inaugurated at the composting unit of Block 8 maintained by Division of Vegetable sciences. While inaugurating the unit Director Dr M R Dinesh advised heads of other divisions to install similar units in their respective blocks and also popularise the unit among the farmers so that farm waste can be converted into organic wealth. This will curtail the burning of farm waste and also stop further spread of air pollution. Following that a demonstration was conducted on fast decomposition of farm waste using lignolytic bacteria. Then all the staff involved in collection and segregation of farm wastes including plastic wastes. The plastic wastes were segregated and heaped for sending to recycling unit. The farm wastes will be sent to decomposition unit for converting into compost and the compost will be put back to fields for recycling nutrients and improving soil health through enhanced microbial activity. The programme was co-ordinated by division of vegetable sciences headed by Dr Vere Gowda.
