ICAR-IIHR Organized “Mass Campaign for Large-scale Use of Climate Resilient Technologies and Methods” Under Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav

ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) organized a Mass Campaign for Large-scale Use of Climate Resilient Technologies and Methods under the Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav programme on September 28, 2021. A total of 100 farmers representing Dharmapuri region of Tamil Nadu and Begepalli and Magadi regions of Karnataka participated in the programme and benefitted.

The programme started with the presentation on “climate resilient technologies in agriculture” delivered by Dr BL Manjunath, Principal Scientist, Division of Fruit Crops. This presentation was followed by that Dr R X Laxman, Principal Scientist, Division of Basic Sciences on “climate resilient technologies in horticulture”. These presentations were followed by the telecast of interaction programme of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi with selected farmers and dedication of new technologies and building of National Institute for Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM) to the services of the nation. The participants witnessed the said interaction and the dedication programme.

Then, there was an interaction session during which the queries of the farmers were answered by scientists of the Institute. This session was chaired by Dr BNS Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIHR. Dr TS Aghora, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer (PME), Dr R Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and Head (I/C), Division of Social Sciences and Training, Dr B Balakrishna, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, Dr M Senthil Kumaran, Scientist, Division of Vegetables, all the Head of the Divisions, and scientists participated as resources persons. There were queries pertaining to recommended production technologies of tuberose, mucuna, plant protection in vegetables both under open and poly house conditions, papaya, capsicum, chrysanthemum, tapioca etc.  The farmers were very much satisfied with the overall programme that they have learnt innovations about climate resilient technologies. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Mr. GA Atheequlla, Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training.
