Special training programmeon “Plant Germplasm Conservation, Management and Registration”for the Scientists of Central Sericulture Genetic Resource Centre (CSGRC), Hosur from 28th to 30th October , 2021

ICAR-IIHR organized a 3 day (28th to 30th October, 2021) special trainingprogramme on “Plant Germplasm Conservation, Management and Registration”for thescientists of Central Sericulture Genetic Resource Centre (CSGRC CSB), Hosur.The training programme was organized based on request received from Dr. B. Sreenivasa, Director CSGRC, in response to the recommendation by the Research Advisory Committee of CSGRC. The programme started with the inaugural sessionwhere Dr. B.T.Sreenivasa honorable director, CSGRC was the chief guest. In his remarks, sir briefed about the activities of CSGRC and also expressed the need for this training programme. Participant scientists also introduced their background and expressed their expectations from the training programme. In the afternoon, there was an interaction with Dr. B.N.S.Murthy, Director ICAR-IIHR. Dr. Murthy expressed his wishes for the successful conduct of the programme and also suggested some research areas that can be looked into in further projects of CSGRC  CSB,Hosur,like including the phytochemical profiling for fruit traits and also to develop package of practices for fruit yielding mulberry.The first lecture of the training was taken by Dr. P.E.Rajasekharan Principal Scientist and Training Director  on “Trends in PGR management”. He elaborated on the basic concepts in PGR management like collection, conservation and also mentioned about the PGR activities at ICAR-IIHR. The afternoon session was taken by Dr. Souravi on Ecological Niche modeling and GIS in PGR handling. This was followed by practicals where the participants were exposed to methods of mulberry pollen collection, germination and viability testing. On the second day, Dr.R. Venugopalan, Principal Scientist, Division of Social sciences and training delivered a lecture on the “Statistical tools and Database management in PGR”. This was followed with the lectureof Dr. V.Sridhar, Principal Scientist, Division of Crop Protection on “Quarantine regulations in PGR management”.Dr.M.Krishna Reddy , Principal scientist and Head of the Division of Crop protection delivered lecture on the topic “Virus indexing in genetic resources” followed by a lab visit where the participants were shown various facilities like TEM, SEM, PCRs etc. The practicals on in vitro and cryopreservation was arranged in the afternoon session. The third day started with the lecture on “Characterization and evaluation of germplasm” by Dr.M.R.Rohini, Scientist, Division of Flower and Medicinal Crops. This was followed by the lecture on “Germplasm registration by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Principal scientist, Division of Flower and Medicinal Crops. The final lecture of the training was on “Online resources in PGR management” by Dr.Sridhar Gutam, Senior scientist, AICRP on fruits.The participants were then taken for a field visit to the RET field gene bank and medicinal crop field and nursery. Valedictory session of the training was arranged in the afternoon which was chaired by Dr. Chandish R Ballal, Ex-Director, ICAR-NBAIR, Bengaluru and Chairperson of RAC of CSGRC,Hosur  and attended by training Director and Coordinator along with all the resource persons. Dr. Ballal congratulated the team for successful conduct of the training programme and urged the participants for implementing the knowledge gained from this programme in their ongoing projects at CSGRC. Training report was presented and certificate distributed  to the participants by the chief guest. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks. The training was organized by Dr. P.E.
