ICAR-IIHR organized field day cum off-campus training programme on Rose Onion

Field day cum off campus-training programme on Rose Onion cultivation and export was held on 30-10-2021 at Sadali Village, Shidlaghatta taluk, Chikkaballapura district, under the RKVY project “Dissemination of horticultural production technologies through integrated extension approach for enhancing livelihood of farming community” by ICAR–IIHR, Bengaluru in collaboration with Sadalamma Farmers Producers company limited, Sadali and Department of Horticulture, Govt., Karnataka. More than 100 farmers particularly involved in rose onion cultivation were participated in the programme. The programme was started with welcome speech by Dr. N.R Prasanna Kumar and Lighting lamp by all the dignitaries. Then B. Srinivas, the President, Sadalamma Farmers Producers Company limited, delivered the speech on importance of IIHR technologies for Rose onion cultivation with the continuous support by ICAR-IIHR to Saladamma FPO. Ramesh N, SADH, Shidlaghatta, Chikkapabbapura (ZP) has enumerated the importance of quality seed production in Rose onion and good agricultural practices (GAP) for better returns to the farmers. Madhumathi Andros from APEDA, Bengaluru has explained about the status of Rose onion export. Karanth B, Consultant, APEDA, Bengaluru gave detailed information about requirement of quality bulbs of rose onion for export demand. Anaga Satyanarayana, Scion Agricos, explained about Global GAP Certification in rose onion.

Technical session on Rose Onion cultivation was started with Dr. A. Carolin Rathinakumari, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIHR, has illustrated the machineries for rose onion cultivation and processing. Dr. Raghu B. R, Scientist explained about the Rose onion varieties and their agronomical practice and also quality seed production of rose onion. Dr. N.R Prasanna Kumar, Scientist, gave detailed information on insect pests of rose onion and their management practices. Dr. G.M. Sandeep Kumar, Scientist explained diseases of rose onion and their management practices especially on anthracnose (twister disease), rots & other soil borne diseases. Inputs like plastic crates, Arka Vegetable Special & Arka Microbial Consortium were distributed to 20 beneficiaries under SCSP funds of ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. Dr. R. Vekatta Kumar, Principal Scientist delivered the presidential address and enumerated the importance of Regional GI crop ie. Rose onion for better income to the farmers and importance of continuous interaction between scientists & farmers, and scope to expand rose onion production and export. Scientist and farmers interaction session was started and, in this session, farmers clarify their doubts and got the solution for their field related problems in Rose onion cultivation.  Board of Directors, President, CEO and Members of the Sadalamma Farmers Producers company limited, Sadali village were participated in the programme. Fianlly the programme was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Raghu B. R.
