Interactive meeting with UPASI Farmers about ICAR-IIHR Technologies on Fruit Crops on 8.02.2022

            An interactive meeting with UPASI farmers about ICAR-IIHR technologies on Fruit Crops under the Chairmanship of Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIHR was held on 8th February, 2022 at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru under RKVY project entitled “Dissemination of Horticultural production technologies through Integrated Extension Approaches for enhancing livelihood of farming community”. The program was attended by planter representatives of UPASI including President and Secretary of the association. Dr.Venkattkumar, Head, Division of Social Science and Training welcomed the participants. Mr. M.P. Cherian, President, UPASI shared about the activities of UPASI and the concern of climate change in tea, coffee and rubber plantations and the need of multi cropping systems. The resource persons, Dr. P.C. Tripathi, Dr. M. Sankaran and Dr. G. Karunakaran, Dr.P.D.Kamalajayanthi and Dr. S. Sriram explained about the ICAR-IIHR Fruit crop technologies suitable for commodity based multiple cropping system. Emphasis was given to fruit crops viz., rambutan, avocado, mangosteen, pummelo and citrus fruits and other exotic fruits. There was also a talk on insect pests and disease management of these crops. In addition to this there was an interaction with resource persons and representatives from UPASI.  Dr. T.S. Aghora, Nodal Officer (PME) discussed about the possibilities and modalities for collaborative research work with UPASI and ICAR-IIHR. Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director instructed to take up demonstrations/ trials of ICAR-IIHR technologies at UPASI regional research stations. Followed by the interactive sessions, field visit to ICAR-IIHR Experimental Farm, Hirehalli was arranged and Dr. G. Karunakaran discussed various aspects of multi cropping systems with the farmers’ representatives. The program was coordinated by Dr.R.Venkattakumar, Dr. G. Karunakaran, Dr. C. Vasugi.
