National Sports Day was celebrated on 29th August 2023 at Central Horticultural Experiment Station, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bhubaneswar to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Singh. On this occasion, various sports events were organized at CHES campus to raise the awareness about the value of sports; discipline, team work and perseverance. Group events like Lemon & spoon race game, race walking and tug-of-war for both men and women, tennis ball cricket and volleyball. During closing ceremony, Sk. Shahabaaz Alam, was invited as chief guest. Sk Alam was selected for AIFF Under-19 Camp and represented Chennai City F.C., participated for Odisha in Dr B C Roy Trophy, participated for Odisha in National Football Championship for Santosh trophy several times etc. Considering the immense contribution to the field of Football, he was felicitated with a memento during the event. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of sports and being physically active in the day to day life. The employees of all categories participated in the day-long event. The event was co-ordinated by staff welfare committee with help of Mrs Annapurna Behera, Mrs Rina Pattanayak, Sri Manoj Kr Pattanaik, Sri Arun Ku Barik and Sri P C Majhi and overall supervision of the Head.
