Individual shrink-wrapping of pomegranate and capsicum fruits.
Application / Use: For extending the storage life of pomegranate and capsicum at ambient and low temperatures.
Input Needed: Seeds of the variety Raw material : Pomegranate and capsicum Semi –permeable polyolefin films Machinery :1. Film sealer 2. Shrink wrapping Tunnel Power : 9 KW Manpower : 10- 15 labour hours/tonne Land/space : 8’ x 8’ room Investment : Rs 75,000 to 1 lakh depending upon the capacity
Output Capacity: 2 tonnes/hour in the shrink tunnel
Specific Benefits: By individual shrink wrapping the storage life of pomegranate could be extended to 3-4 weeks at ambient conditions and to 10-12 weeks at 8oC. Similarly the storage life of capsicum can be extended to 12-14 days at ambient conditions and 7weeks at 7oC.
Unit Cost: By individual shrink wrapping the storage life of pomegranate could be extended to 3-4 weeks at ambient conditions and to 10-12 weeks at 8oC. Similarly the storage life of capsicum can be extended to 12-14 days at ambient conditions and 7weeks at 7oC.
Description: The shrink wrapping process is simple and requires only a sealer and hot-air shrink tunnel. Individual pomegranate or capsicum fruit is loosely sealed in a flexible film using a film sealer and the packs are then passed through a heat-shrunk tunnel for a very short period (a few seconds). The loosely sealed film shrinks tightly over the surface of the commodity in the shrink tunnel and comes out individually tight-wrapped.
