National Mushroom Day was celebrated on 23rd Dec 2022 at the Mushroom lab, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore, with a view to enhance the awareness of these qualities of mushrooms among the men and women who are the guardians of family health and children. The celebration was organized with 30 Scheduled caste farm men and women of the Gudibande and Gauribidanur taluk, Chickballapura District. Mushrooms are well known for their Proteins, Vitamin D, immune modulating and anti-viral qualities. Hands on training for oyster mushroom cultivation and production of mushroom value-added products was also conducted. Mushroom puliogare power product was prepared by these women and was given to the them for sensory evaluation and was well accepted. Ready to fruit (RTF) bags were also distributed to the women to harvest mushrooms at home.
