An Industry Meet was organised by ICAR-IIHR in collaboration with IP&TM Unit, ICAR, New Delhi on 31st of October 2023 at Dr. G. S. Randhawa Auditorium, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR gave the introductory remarks. The Presidential address was delivered by the Chief Guest of the day Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, ADG (Flower/Veg./Spices/Med. Plants), ICAR. Dr. Pandey congratulated the innovators, licensees and appreciated the efforts of IIHR in organizing this Meet. He further described the horticultural research scenario in different ICAR institutes, overall view on technology commercialization, discussions on easing regulatory compliances and the leads taken towards popularizing and sale of ICAR technologies through online channels like Kisan Mart and Amazon.
The Guest of Honour Dr. Saiprasad Gandra, Senior Principal Scientist, ITC Life Sciences & Technology Centre, Bangalore. Dr. Saiprasad Gandra gave a bird’s eye view of the domains of interest of ITC Life Sciences & Technology Centre to the House and explained the gaps and non technological limitations confronted when associating with a Governmental agency like the regulatory compliances and associated delays. Dr. K. S. Mahesh, General Manager, NABARD delivered the address as Guest of Honour and described the various schemes supported by NABARD for the benefit of Startups. He stressed on the motto of NABARD that every research need to reach the farmer toiling in the field.
This was followed by technology licensing MoU exchanges for three ICAR-IIHR technologies namely Arka Sasya Poshak Ras to M/s. Chully Farm, Kasaragod, Kerala, Arka Mango Wash technology to Mr. Krishna Chandra Mahapatra, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha and Machinery drawings of Raised Bed Onion bulbet Planter to M/s. A G Industries, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Two publications were released during the event namely 1. “Arka Mango Wash-A technology for removal of fruit blackening caused by sooty blotch” 2. “Technology Commercialization @ ICAR-IIHR Trends & Leads-The Way Forward”.
Technical sessions commenced after this with Session I where in licensable technologies and incubation facilities from different institutes under SHZTMC was introduced by an authorized representative of the institute. Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru gave an exhaustive lecture on the bouquet of technologies and facilities available for entrepreneurs from ICAR-IIHR. Session II involved start ups and their success stories and Session III was panel discussion between the participating industries and ICAR scientists.
An exhibition was arranged during the event where in various ICAR Institutes in the South Horticultural Zone exhibited their licensed technologies along with their incubatees. About 92 registered stakeholders participated and the participants included industrialists, aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups and contributed to the success of the event.
