Marigold variety ‘ Arka Bangara 2’ brings smile on the face of Yadgir farmer
For Mr. Shanthilal of Chamanal village, Yadigr district, this Dussera festival has been more colourful and joyous as he harvested flowers of IIHR marigold variety ‘Arka Bangara 2’.
A demonstration trial of marigold variety ‘Arka Bangara 2’, taken up in his farm by Mr. Vasudev Naik Scientist, KVK, Kalburgi has given him all reasons to smile. His farm has been attraction for near by farmers appreciating the healthy crop stand and beautiful flowers. Besides good harvest, he was happy when he found that in market varieties of ‘Arka Bangara 2’ was fetching him more price over the other varieties as the traders found the compactness and ball like round shape of the flowers more attractive. Mr. Shanthilal explains that planting at a distance of 60x90cm, and each plant yielding about 1.5 kg, he expects a yield of 10-12 tons per acre. With reduced incidence of pest and disease, high yield and attractive flowers, he found growing IIHR variety ‘Arka Bangara 2’ is more profitable compared to other commercial hybrids he has been growing.
